NEWS ALERT -- Syria's Assad praises Iran deal as 'great victory'

Damascus (AFP) - Syrian President Bashar al-Assad congratulated key ally Iran Tuesday on reaching a nuclear deal with world powers, calling the agreement a "great victory".

"In the name of the Syrian people, I congratulate you and the people of Iran on this historic achievement," he added in another message addressed to President Hassan Rouhani.
In a message to supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Assad said he was "happy that the Islamic Republic of Iran has achieved a great victory by reaching an agreement", state news agency SANA reported.
Assad said the deal would be a "major turning point in the history of Iran, the region and the world."
He added that it provided "clear recognition on the part of world powers of the peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear programme, while preserving the national rights of your people and confirming the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran."
"We are confident Iran will continue, and with greater momentum, to support the peoples' just issues and to work towards establishing peace and stability in the region and the world," Assad said.
Syria's foreign ministry also welcomed the deal, which it said underlined "the importance of adopting diplomacy and political solutions to resolve international disagreements."
Tehran is a longstanding ally of Damascus and has remained so since Syria's uprising began in March 2011.
It has bolstered Assad's government with military and financial support, including a $1 billion (900 million euro) credit line approved by Syria's parliament on July 7.
It is also a key ally of Lebanon's Hezbollah movement, which has dispatched fighters to help Assad's forces battle the uprising.
More than 230,000 people have been killed in Syria since the conflict began with anti-government demonstrations more than four years ago.

NEWS ALERT -- US: We’ll Compel Nigeria to Accept Same-sex Marriage

As President Muhammadu Buhari prepares to meet with his United States counterpart, Barack Obama, in the White House next Monday, the US government is expected to make another case asking the Nigerian government to repeal its law against same-sex unions.

Making this known Monday, the US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, stated that the US would continue to pressure Nigeria until it legalises same-sex marriage.

According to the Nigerian Pilot, Thomas-Greenfield revealed America’s plans yesterday during a live-web chat with journalists in Washington DC.

US recently legalised gay marriage, a development, which sparked off mixed reactions across the globe.
Thomas-Greenfield, who said the US had adopted the protection of the rights of same-sex people as part of its foreign policies, vowed that Washington would continue to mount and sustain pressure on Nigeria and other countries to reverse their laws against lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender (LGBT) community.

She said: “As a government, it is one of the highest priorities and strongest values that discrimination against anyone based on their sexual orientation and gender identity is wrong. We believe human rights should be available to everybody.

“As a policy, we will continue to press the government of Nigeria, as well as other governments which have provided legislation that discriminate against the LGBT community.”

Thomas-Greenfield, who did not agree that pressuring Nigeria to reverse the anti-gay law amounted to interference, said Nigeria and Uganda have the hardest legislation on the gay community.

She said: “This is very much a work in progress, but I think you will agree with me that the law in Nigeria really went far in discriminating against this community but also people who associate with them. So, we will continue to press the government, to press the legislature to change these laws and provide human rights for all Nigerian people regardless of their sexual orientation.”

Thomas-Greenfield was optimistic that the US would win the fight to protect the LGBT community.

She continued: “With what is happening in the US, you can determine how far we are willing to go. We strongly believe human rights for all people and we are particularly opposed to legislation that actually targets the gay community for discrimination.
“So we are prepared to push this as a policy, not just in Africa but across the world.”

NEWS ALERT -- FG Declares Nnamdi Kanu Wanted; Jams Radio Biafra Signals

News just reaching our news room says the Federal government have declared the Director of the ‘pirate’ radio station, Radio Biafra wanted. According to Vanguard, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information, Dr. Sade Yemi-Esan, on Tuesday said the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation has succeeded in stopping the signal of Radio Biafra because it was not licensed.
Yemi-Esan disclosed this to State House correspondents shortly after briefing President Muhammadu Buhari of her ministry’s activities inside the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
She said the commission was currently working with security agencies to apprehend those behind the illegal radio.
She said, “We also gave a report on Radio Biafra. Right now, the signals from the radio have been jammed successfully by the NBC.
“The commission is also working with security agencies to get those that are behind that radio because it is an illegal radio. It is not licensed by anybody to be on the airwaves in Nigeria.”

She added that the President had directed her ministry to put machinery in place to end the scourge of piracy in the nation’s movie industry.

“The President raised concerns about piracy in Nollywood and he has instructed us to work harder to ensure that the producers of Nollywood films get what is due to them and that we reduce piracy to the barest minimum,” she said.
She added that the President frowned at some media houses that are in the habit of owing salaries.
She said Buhari saw the development as not too good for the country.
She said, “I think it was last week that one of the newspapers was shut down because of non-payment of salaries.
“I think that should not be heard of in a country like Nigeria.
“Mr. President frowns on things like that, the welfare of every Nigerian, especially journalists is one of the major concerns that we have.”
The Permanent Secretary said the President wanted the ministry to intensify publicity because of his desire that every Nigerian should know about policies and programmes of his government.
She said they also talked about external publicity and the possibility of re-opening the federal information services abroad.

NEWS -- Former Synagogue Church Member Accuses Pastor T.B. Joshua Of Being a ritualist

Last year, Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN), witnessed one of the most sympathetic incident as its church building collapsed killing many especially international citizens from South-Africa, France and other African countries. To our greatest surprise, there have been a new twist to the story as to why the church collapsed. A former member of the church had earlier claimed, that the terrible incident was a sacrifice made by the general overseer Pastor, T.B. Joshua, to satisfy his spiritual needs and maintain his success as a pastor.

In an interview with Daily Telegraph in Accra, Ghana, a woman who identified herself as Mabel further warned that more calamities would befall the man of God if he does not make the right turn and confess his sins. The woman also accused Pastor Joshua of burying two live cows in the foundation of the main church auditorium. She further insisted that,  the pastor refused to go to the court as lying would do him no good as he would be breaking the laws of the ritual.
