ENTERTAINMENT GIST - It's 36 years since music legend, Bob Marley died at the age of 36

History has it that “Money can’t buy life” were the last words late music legend, Robert Nesta "Bob" Marley uttered to his son, Ziggy as the 36 year-old Jamaican passed away on May 11, 1981 at the Cedars of Lebanon Hospital in Miami, USA surrounded by members of his family including his weeping mother, Cedelar Booker after his long battle with cancer and brain tumor.

Today mark 36 years after his death and it's safe to say that his legend, music and impactful message still lives on!

At the time of his death, the world was shook with the news but comforted by the illustrious legacy the iconic figure left where he used his music as a tool to fight societal ills as well making it an avenue to unite the human race.

The late Bob Marley had a humble beginning. He was born in the ghettos of Kingston, Jamaica on February 6, 1945. His father was Norman Marley, a British Naval Captain posted to the West Indies during the Second World War.

Late Marley had little Western education as he dropped out of school at 14 to become an apprentice welder. He soon quit welding to team up with Peter Tosh whom he had met recently and both released a single, Simmer Down which enjoyed a considerable airplay on the local radio.

In 1964, Marley and Tosh formed the Wailing Wailers together with Bunny Livingstone Wailer, Junior Braithwaite, Beverly Kelso, Rita Anderson (who later became Rita Marley in 1966), Judy Mowatt, and Marcia Griffith (the 1-Three). The group was popular in Jamaica as it performed in many shows.

In 1972, the Wailers was signed on by Chris Blackwell’s Island Records and the following year, 1973 came out with their debut album, Catch A Fire an album that launched the Wailers into super stardom. The group toured Britain, but as successful as the tour was, it turned out to be the turning point for the group. Back in Jamaica, the group split with Peter Tosh and Bonny Walter opting out after alleging Bob Marley’s domineering role while on tour.

Bob Marley married Alpharita Constantia "Rita" Anderson in Kingston, Jamaica, on 10 February 1966. Marley had many children: three with his wife Rita, two adopted from Rita's previous relationships, and several others with different women. The Bob Marley official website acknowledges eleven children.

With 42 official releases, plus countless photos and videos of him captured both on and off the stage, the story of Bob Marley is one of the most chronicled in all of music history

Thirty Six years after, Bob Marley’s work still lives on, he would constantly be remembered as the apostle of reggae music, a thorn in the flesh of the oppressors and the wailing voice of the oppressed. He was the cultural ambassador of the Carribean Island and his indelible mark in the world and influence on music even on generations yet unborn cannot and will never be rivaled.

RIP BOB

ENTERTAINMENT GIST -- Eedris Abdulkareem attacks 2face for disrespecting Daddy Showkey

Eedris Abdulkareem, former member of defunct music group, Eddyremedies, has verbally attacked widely acclaimed afro-pop legend, 2face Idibia, for disrespecting self styled king of the jungle, Daddy Showkey, and for pulling out of the peaceful protest against the federal government, championed by Enough is Enough group, early last month.

Recall that 2face who had initially indicated his interest to lead entertainers and other interested persons on the peaceful protest later expressed his decision to withdraw as a result of purported security threats. In a recent interview, Eedris who once went on self exile as a result of his song Jaga Jaga, blasted 2face for starting a movement he wasn’t capable of pulling off. In his opinion, 2face should have just accepted his fate as a crooner of love songs instead of trying to imitate the likes of Fela and other legendary freedom fighters, who used their songs and other means available to fight the government. Eedris said, “People are tired of noise on air, they want to listen to real music, we made it all happen so you all came back home to make money so show some respect fools. Without us these idiots won’t make that money they are making. The other day 2face go dey disrespect daddy Showkey, you for tell Daddy Showkey say you no go come studio, who you be, you dey mad? You don forget say na Blackface write all your hits, or who send you make you go put your hand for protest wey dem nor call you, wey you nor know anything about. Waka Wiki MC, I nor tell you say na you be the Plantashunz? I nor tell you say make you no let am get to your head? Nigga wake up men, all the good guys wey dey around, you show all of them finish you come still go dey start the protest, you come think say you go fit do am alone, you don forget say what   you do basically is love songs; dey impregnate people dey go”, he ranted.

ENTERTAINMENT GIST - How KSA, Asa, 2Baba and Dbanj left their mark on the Atlantic

When the announcement was made months ago that King Sunny Ade (KSA), Asa, 2Baba and Dbanj would light up the stage of the Eko Atlantic on Independence Day this year, many would have thought it would be a low key affair, but from what we saw last night, it certainly wasn’t!

The Supremacy Concert, an initiative of the Main Group and the finale of the much talked about Made-in-Nigeria Festival attracted music fans from far and near. While it would not be the first time the Eko Atlantic has played host to a concert but the Supremacy Concert would surpass all.

The concert was opened by the amiable Sola Mogaji who introduced herself to the teeming crowd at the Atlantic and also went on to introduce the music superstars billed to perform.

First to lead the pack was the living legend who just clocked 70 years of age, King Sunny Ade popularly called KSA. The legendary musician who was seen in a Made-in-Nigeria bespoke Atiku outfit sent the crowd into nostalgia by bringing back his evergreen songs back to back. Many would have thought his septuagenarian age would hinder him from showing his electrifying dance steps but that was not the case as he danced gracefully to the delight of the crowd.

Innocent Idibia popularly called 2Baba was next to perform at the Atlantic. He performed in his native Akwa-Ibom outfit with dark shades. He went on to reel out his hit songs from Implication to for Instance and more, a move that left the crowd asking for more. 2Baba didn’t disappoint his fans as he also performed his new singleOfficially Blind which was chorused by the fans throughout the period he performed.

In between these performances, the legendary DJ, the one fans love to call cool DJ JimmyJatt was also on hand to deliver judgement on the wheel of steel at the concert. Fans of the pioneer DJ danced without holding back as they listened to the range of hits he mixed from his music box.

Next on was the Internationally Recognised Singer and Entertainer- Asa. Asa was seen wearing her trademark Nigerian fabric blouse while performing at the event. She literally blew away everybody, she performed hits from all her albums such as Bibanke, Akinyele, Mama mi, Satan be Gone, 360 and others. She also reminded everyone present how much of a good guitarist she is as she latched on to her guitar playing old songs much to the singing delight of all present there.

Asa then surprised everyone present when she attempted to praise the MaIN Founder, Prince Segun Oniru by singing the popular Fuji music even though she confessed her band who are white men could not replicate the Fuji beats for her, a move that sent the crowd into rapturous laughter.

The Koko Master Dbanj came on stage in dramatic fashion after his ‘Hype man’ Jimmie, engaged the crowd in wild chants to welcome the emergence of the Ejanla (big fish as Dbanj calls himself sometimes). Dbanj did not just perform for the audience, he entertained them too keeping them on the edge of their seats for most of the night, with several hits such as Suddenly, Emergency, Mr. Endowed and other hits.

ENTERTAINMENT GIST - Tyga set to have his $400k Lamborghini 'repossessed after failing to make payments'

Rapper and Kylie Jenner's boyfriend, Tyga's car loan company is looking for him to confiscate his $400k Lamborghini after failing to make payments. TMZ reports below...
According to docs obtained by TMZ, Tyga owes Choice Motor Credit $357,350.77 for not making payments on his 2013 Lambo Aventador ... and as a result, they want to take back the luxury ride.
Tyga should know the drill by now -- CMC says it already repo'd the rapper's 2014 Bentley Mulsanne back in February and sold it. However, Tyga's still on the hook for more than $91k on that whip. He's gonna save a ton on car insurance.

ENTERTAINMENT GIST -Mariah Carey insures her vocal cords and hamstrings for $70 million

Mariah, who has one of the most powerful voices in the music industry, just insured her vocal cords and hamstrings for $35 million dollars each. The 46 year old mother of two, who is on tour, insured her most valuable assets because if anything happens to them it could result in a huge loss of profits

TMZ reports below...

Mariah Carey no doubt has the most expensive vocal cords and hamstrings in America ... because we found out she's insured both for $70 million.

Mariah's on tour now, and it's so successful she just agreed to extend it to South America. Fact is, there are millions of dollars on the line now, and if anything happens to her major assets it could result in an epic loss of profits.

To guard against all that, our sources say Mariah and company just got a $35 million insurance policy for her voice, and another policy of equal amount for her gams.
We're told the monthly premium is super expensive ... in the many thousands of dollars, but it's worth it.

You would think she'd invest at least $10 mil on her ass

ENTERTAINMENT GIST - Cynthia Morgan Goes Back To Taking Cabs after Her Range Rover Gets Stolen

Jude Okoye’s signee, Cynthia Morgan, whose white Range Rover automobile was stolen few weeks ago, now moves around in taxis, Naij reports.
A source revealed to Naij that, at the moment, she is quite down psychologically and emotionally. She has also decided to be indoors, keeping to herself most of the time.
The source was quoted as saying:
“But if it is important for her to go out, she takes taxis. I actually understand her grief because she said goodbye to that club barely six months ago when the Range Rover arrived, but she is back to square one now. It hurts everybody.”
The car was allegedly stolen about two weeks ago from a compound in Omole Phase1. The driver, who was later arrested by Cynthia, was the first to report the theft incident at Grammar School police station, Ojodu, Lagos.
Efforts to recover it have so far proven abortive. Cynthia was away in Abuja as at the time of the theft..

ENTERTAINMENT GIST - Ali baba blames buhari for his weight gain, says this is not the change we voted for oo

When celebrities start complaining that Nigeria needs solution, that means that Nigeria really need help from God.
Ali Baba has joined the league of Nigerian celebrities who are wondering what the government would do to reduce the suffering of the masses.
However, his own headache is that he just added weight and is blaming the government for that.
Just few weeks ago, he got into a heated argument with a group of novelties and he won a handful of cash, after insisting that his prediction will come to pass. He was N2million richer, maybe, that is why he is adding in weight.

Everything is just on the high side in this country. The heat. The fuel scarcity. The unemployment figures. Even my weight that I checked in Dubai on an electronic weighing machine that put my weight at 95.6kg… Has gone up to 100kg!!!! This is not the change we voted for ooo. Or could it be that eba and Afang I ate on arrival? No, this bathroom scale is faulty. Definitely,” he wrote on his Instagram.

ENTERTAINMENT GIST - Tupac Shakur's stepfather up for parole after spending 30 years in prison

Rapper, Tupac Shakur's step father, Mutulu Shakur made the FBI's most wanted list in 1986. Hee was eventually captured, convicted and sentenced to 60 years in prison for leading a revolutionary group responsible for a trail of bloodshed, including the slayings of an armed guard and two New York police officers. Shakur was also charged with aiding fellow revolutionary Joanne Chesimard (Assata Shakur) escape from a New Jersey prison, where she eventually fled to Cuba. But after serving half his prison sentence, Mutulu Shakur might soon be a free man.

The 65-year-old, stepfather to the late rapper Tupac Shakur, is eligible for mandatory parole after serving 30 years of the 60-year sentence he was given in 1988 for masterminding a string of deadly armed robberies in New York and Connecticut committed by a militant political group known as "The Family."
His parole hearing is to take place this week at the federal penitentiary in Victorville, California, where he is serving his sentence, according to U.S. Justice Department spokesman Peter Carr.

Michael Paige, who is the son of one of the slain armed guards isn't happy about the upcoming parole hearing.
He said:

"That's the going rate? Thirty years for at least three lives that were taken?" he said. "I was 16 years when he was killed by these animals. Not a day goes by that I don't think about my father."
Following Mutulu Shakur's parole hearing, a hearing officer will make a recommendation to the U.S. Parole Commission on whether or not he should be released. The federal commission will make the final decision on whether to grant parole.
