NEWS ALERT !!!-- Court orders ex Jigawa gov, Sule Lamido and 2 sons remanded in prison till Sept 28th

A Federal high court sitting in Kano has ordered that former governor of Jigawa state Sule Lamido and two of his sons, Aminu and Mustapha be remanded in Kano Prison till September 28th when their bail application will be heard. The former governor and his sons are being accused of collecting bribe totaling N1.35 billion from government contractors when he was governor. Picture above shows the former governor and his sons arriving court this morning...
At the hearing today, the presiding judge, Justice Evelyn Anyadike ruled that the former governor, his sons and one of his aides, Aminu Mustapha be kept in Kano prison despite a plea from their counsel that they should be transferred to the EFCC cell in Abuja or Kano. EFCC counsel had objected to this, claiming that the cells in both Kano and Abuja are full to capacity.

A federal court has ordered a former Jigawa State governor, Sule Lamido, and his two sons, Aminu and Mustapha, accused of fraud, remanded in prison custody in Kano till September 28.
The former governor was arraigned on Thursday alongside his children for receiving N1.35 billion kickback from a government contractor.
The money was allegedly paid into accounts controlled by the governor and his sons.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is accusing the four suspects of money laundering, amongst other charges.
They were due for arraignment Wednesday, but the court appearance was rescheduled to Thursday (today).
Security was stepped up around the court vicinity in Kano ahead of the hearing Thursday.
Delivering a ruling, Justice Evelyn Anyadike ordered that the four accused persons be remanded in a Kano Prison Custody because the EFCC said they lacked enough facilities to accommodate them.
She rejected the pleas of defence counsel, Effiong Effiong, SAN, that the accused be kept at EFCC custody, saying the commission had complained of inadequate facilities.
Twenty eight-count charge bordering on a number of alleged breach of trust by Sule Lamido, Aminu Sule Lamido, Mustapha Sule Lamido and one Aminu Wada Abubakar, was read in court.
They pleaded not guilty after the charges were read to them.
The case involved N1.351 billion.
The judge ruled that the accused persons be remanded pending the hearing of their bail applications.
Earlier, the defence counsel, Mr. Effiong, had argued that remanding the accused persons in prison would amount to trampling on their fundamental human rights.
He pleaded they be sent to either of EFCC facilities in Abuja or Kano.
However, the counsel to the EFCC, Chile Okoroma, objected to the plea, saying EFCC facilities were full to capacity both in Kano and Abuja.
The case was adjourned to September 28 for ruling on bail applications.
There was pandemonium in court between those supporting Mr. Lamido and those against him, leading the police to fire teargas canisters into the air to disperse the crowd.
Mr. Lamido, his sons and Mr. Abubakar are accused of using their positions to siphon Jigawa State funds.
in 2014 it was reported how a construction firm, Dantata and Sawoe, paid N1.3 billion as 10 percent kickback for contracts it won, into accounts owned by the governor and his sons.
It also showed how, between 2007, when Mr. Lamido assumed office, and 2014, Dantata and Sawoe Construction Company was awarded contracts amounting to N13.5 billion.
The state government made payments for the contracts to the construction firm through five banks – Zenith, Access, Diamond, Sterling and UBA.
Within the same period, according to a probe of the transactions by the EFCC, Dantata and Sawoe paid out over N1.3 billion into the accounts of companies in which the governor and his sons had

NEWS ALERT -- “LNG bailout fund Jonathans savings”- PDP insists - advises presidency to deal on issues & stop personal insults & abuses

Press statement from the PDP....
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) insists that contrary to claims by the Presidency, the  $2.1 billion Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) component of the bailout for states was actually saved by the immediate past President Jonathan-led PDP administration.
The party said in actual fact the LNG dividend stood at $5.6 billion even before the handover date of May 29th and would have been shared but for the insistence of former President Goodluck Jonathan that it be left for the incoming administration to manage.

PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh in statement on Wednesday thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for making it possible for Nigerians to know that monies were left behind by the Goodluck Jonathan administration.

The party said despite attempts by the APC-led administration to hide the truth, the issuance of the bailout with funds from the LNG proceeds and the Excess Crude Account (ECA) has exposed the fact that the PDP administration actually left behind huge sums of money, contrary to the impression earlier given to Nigerians and the international community that the new administration met a virtually empty treasury.

“It is gratifying to note that gradually the evidence of monies left behind by the PDP-led administration is coming to public light despite effort by the new government to hide the facts.

The public had been made aware that $2 billion was left in the ECA for which the Accountant –General and the APC confirmed approvals for the withdrawal of $1.7 billion.

“We know that surely, though slowly, a lot of other monies saved by the PDP and which are now under the control of the APC government will eventually be unveiled by this administration themselves and without any effort on our part whatsoever.

The PDP says it believes that President Buhari must have realized that he was earlier misdirected on the actual state of the nation’s finances and should as a respected statesman apologize to his predecessor, President Goodluck Jonathan who also ensured that he handed over to him a peaceful and stable environment to operate.

The party said “President Buhari as a leader on whose shoulders lies the mandate of the Nigerian people and the burden of governance for the next four years should strive to disentangle himself from the intrigues, propaganda, blackmail and machinations of some leaders in his party and focus on delivering on his campaign promises for which he was elected.”

The PDP also urged the APC as a party in power to rise above board and endeavor to be honest in its dealings, especially if it wants Nigerians to take it seriously. It said a situation where a ruling party will resort to a dishonorable act of altering a statement where it earlier acknowledged the approval for the withdrawal from the ECA, just to hide the truth, leaves much to be desired.

Finally, we want the public to note that all our statements and engagements have been based on facts and issues. Consequently, we urge the Presidency to focus on issues and stop trending on personal insults, threats and abuses.

Chief Olisa Metuh
National Publicity Secretary

IDEAS -- A House Made Entirely of Plastic Bottles In Nigeria , Stronger than a Brick House

A project in Nigeria is using plastic bottles to build houses. The plastic bottle helps to lower the cost of building and by clearing empty bottles, it helps the environment too.  The bottles are picked up of the streets and collected from rubbish dumps.
The Plastic bottles are packed solid with soil and laid on top of each other then  bound with mud and string. The developers claim the buildings can withstand earthquakes and bullets.

The project also creates job opportunities for those that are unemployed. A house made of plastic bottles costs a third of a normal house. This an idea for anyone looking to build a house in Africa cheaply.

NEWS ALERT!!!-- Buhari approves whooping N400billion for workers’ salaries

President Buhari has approved a comprehensive relief package valued at over N400bn to put an end to the lingering crisis of unpaid workers’ salaries in the country. Vanguard gathered that a three-pronged relief package that will end the workers plight include:

The sharing of about $2.1b (N413.7bn) in fresh allocation between the states and the federal government. The money is sourced from recent LNG proceeds to the federation account, and its release okayed by the president;

A Central Bank-packaged special intervention fund that will offer financing to the states, ranging from between N250bn to N300bn. This would be a soft loan available to states to access for the purposes of paying backlog of salaries;

And a debt relief program proposed by the Debt Management Office, DMO, which will help states restructure their commercial loans currently put at over N660bn, and extend the life span of such loans while reducing their debt-servicing expenditures.
