NEWS ALERT - Powerful typhoon hits Taiwan. 6 dead, over a 100 seriously injured (See photos)

At least six people have been confirmed dead, four missing and over sixty seriously injured when Typhoon Soudelor hit Taiwan early this morning Saturday August 8th. Taiwan Power, the island's main power company, said 2.94 million households are currently without power. Hundreds of flights have been delayed or cancelled, according to Taiwan authorities.

Thousands of people were evacuated as the storm approached and the island's military put tens of thousands of troops and thousands of vehicles on stand-by for rescue operations.

The storm made landfall early in the morning on the island's east-coast counties of Yilan and Hualien, bringing up to 1,000 mm (39 inches) of rain in mountainous northeastern areas and wind gusting up to 200 kph (124mph). Typhoon Soudelor is expected to cross the Taiwan Strait and hit the Chinese province of Fujian late today. Some photos below...

NEWS - Fashion Designer Poops Out 44 Wraps Of Cocaine

 Okechukwu Kingsley Ajaero, a man who identifies as a fashion designer, was arrested at Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos by the NDLEA after he pooped out 44 wraps of cocaine.   
Ajaero, who told the NDLEA officials that he is a fashion designer, was caught after inward security screening of passengers on a Qatar Airlines flight, detected drugs on him. He has already excreted 30 of the 44 wraps in the aircraft.  NDLEA Airport commander Hamza Umar said the suspect was coming from Sao Paulo, Brazil with the cocaine. Speaking on his arrest, Ajaero said via Nation: “I’m a fashion designer by profession. I went to Brazil two years ago in search of better working conditions. This is my first time of trafficking in drugs and I got involved through friends. I was expecting 30,000 Euros as my profit. My business partner was to collect the drug from me while on transit in Qatar but he failed to show-up. I was compelled to come to Nigeria with the drugs but I excreted 30 on board the aircraft.” Brazil and other countries in South America are huge sources of cocaine and other narcotics. 


It is also reported that there are many Nigerians imprisoned in Brazil for drug related offenses.  Ahmadu Giade, NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive said, “Brazil is a source country for cocaine and we shall continue to beam our searchlight on this route. Those who seek to enrich themselves through drug trafficking shall be arrested and prosecuted”

NEWS ALERT - Buhari approves actions to fast-track environmental clean-up of Ogoniland- Presidency

In keeping with his avowed commitment to working for the development and well-being of all Nigerians, President Muhammadu Buhari Wednesday in Abuja approved several actions to fast-track the long delayed implementation of the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) Report on the environmental restoration of Ogoniland. 

The actions approved by President Buhari, based on recommendations to him by the Executive Director of UNEP, the UNEP Special Representative for Ogoniland, Permanent Secretaries of the Federal Ministries of Environment and Petroleum Resources, and other stakeholders, include the amendment of the Official Gazette establishing the Hydrocarbon Pollution Restoration Project (HYPREP) to reflect a new governance framework comprising a Governing Council, a Board of Trustees and Project Management.

The President further approved that the HYPREP Governing Council should be composed as follows:
Ministry of Petroleum Resources - One Representative
Federal Ministry of Environment - One Representative
Impacted States (Rivers) - One Representative
Oil Companies & NNPC - 4 Representatives
Ogoniland - 2 Representatives
United Nations System - One Representative
Secretariat - Headed by Project Manager
He also approved the composition of a Board of Trustees for the HYPREP Trust Fund as follows:
Federal Government - One Representative
NNPC - One Representative
 International Oil Companies - One Representative
Ogoniland - One Representative
United Nations System - One Representative

Following a meeting held on the directive of President Buhari, it was also agreed that a contribution deposit of 10 million United States dollars will be made by stakeholders within 30 days of the appointment of members of the Board of Trustees for the Trust Fund who will be responsible for collecting and managing funds from contributors and donors. .
A new implementation template has also been evolved at the instance of President Buhari, and the environmental clean-up of Ogoniland will commence in earnest with the President's inauguration of the HYPREP Governing Council and the Board of Trustees for the Trust Fund.

NEWS ALERT - 4 Boko Haram militants arrested In Konduga, Borno state

Boko HAram militants arrested and paraded by Civilian JTF in Konduga during Gov. Shettima’s visit

Some youths of Malari village, in Konduga Local Government area of Borno state have, Wednesday,  paraded before the state governor, Kashim Shettima, four men alleged to have participated in the Monday Boko Haram attack on the villagers, killing 9 persons and displacing hundreds of civilians.

This followed the visit of the governor to sympathize with the villagers on their ordeals.

A civilian JTF member, Nuhu Kumshise who spoke to some pressmen said they arrested one of the suspects after his father had handed him and his co-hots to them.

”We arrested them today after his father handed over them to us, then they led us into the bush where the two remaining guys hid themselves,” Kumshise said.

Barely 24 hours after a new group Managing director was appointed for NNPC, the Executive Directors of the oil corporation have been sacked effective immediately while their replacements have been appointed by the Federal government .

The GEDs fired are Mr. Ian Udoh leading Refining and Petrochemicals, Mr. Adebayo Ibirogba leading the Engineering and Technical team, Dr. David Ige leading Gas and Power, Dr. Attahir Yusuf leading Business Development; Dr. Dan Efebo leading Corporate Services, Mr. Bernard Otti in charge of Finance and Accounts, Ms. Aisha Abdurrahman leading Commerce and Investments, and Mr. Joseph Dawha leading Exploration and Production.

The new replacements and their offices are Refining and Engineering Dr. M.K Baru; Exploration and Production, Denis Nnamdi; Commercial and Investment, Bankole Komolafe and Finance which now has Isiaka AbdulRazak as Group Executive Director.

NEWS - Terrifying moment hiker came face-to-face with a mountain lion

This is the dramatic moment a man came face to face with a mountain lion while on a trek through a mountain range.

 

The incident was captured on camera and took place at the Glacier National Park in Montana, on the Canada-United States border.

In the clip the man talks gently while zooming in on the mountain lion, also known as a cougar, with what is presumably his camera phone.

He speculates that the predator is probably around 50 feet away from him and points out that it is staring straight at him.

The cougar initially seems quite relaxed and content and doesn't appear to be causing the man any major problems, other than the fact that it blocked his path.

But suddenly it gets to its feet and with its head down – as if in a stalking position – begins walking towards him.

The video maker reacts in panic and starts shouting at the mountain lion in the hope of snapping it out of its predatory state and scaring it away.

But at first the cougar doesn’t appear to be too bothered by the noise coming from the man, and although it momentarily stops in its tracks, it continues to look over towards him.

 

The cougar then looks off to its right and begins descending the grass verge – it is unclear at this point whether the predator is heading off or whether it is looking for another way around to the man.

 

It then crouches down on all-fours and appears to be focusing on the man before getting ready to strike.

Realising that he could well be in danger, the video maker shouts at the animal again in a desperate bid to scare it away.

But the mountain lion continues to wander slowly towards him and can be heard breaking branches as it crawls through the thicket.

The cougar then begins walking away from the man but carries on looking over towards him every so often to check him out.

Later in the video the mountain lion takes one last look at the filmmaker before heading off into the trees and becoming hidden from view.

The clip concludes with the man turning the camera around to film himself and acknowledging that he was worried the animal was going to attack him before commenting that the experience was awesome.

 

Mountain lion attacks are very rare as the predators do not generally recognise humans as prey.

 

Attacks may occur when juveniles leave their mothers and look for their own territory or if the animal is suffering from severe starvation, however.
