The players were due to play today.

NEWS - Woman opens emergency exit and jumps out of plane

A woman opened the emergency exit door and jumped out of a plane as it was taxiing down a runway in Houston, startling passengers on board.
The United Airlines flight had just landed in Houston from New Orleans and was headed toward its gate at the George Bush Intercontinental Airport when the incident happened Monday afternoon, said airline spokeswoman Maddie King.
"I realized when the door popped open and a woman stepped out of it," passenger Hampton Friedman told CNN. He was sitting across the aisle and posted a short video of the open door.
The woman, who was not identified, was treated for non-life threatening injuries. She was not charged, but taken for a psychological evaluation, said CNN affiliate KHOU.
"I've flown all over the world and I've been on lots of really long flights and I've never experienced anything like this," another passenger, Cathy Cole, told the affiliate. "I have no earthly idea why she would want to do that."

VIEWPOINTS - Biafra Republic Will Be My Last Words On Earth – Nnamdi Kanu

Leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Director of Radio Biafra/Biafra television, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu has vowed never to betray Biafrans or abandon the fight for Biafra State.
He said he would continue to reject materials allegedly offered him to renounce Biafra struggle until victory for Biafrans was achieved.
Kanu who spoke through his lawyer, Mr. Ifeanyi Ejioffor said his prosecutors and persecutors have come with many strategies to trick him to sign off his quest for Biafra and regain his freedom which he rejected because of his love for the freedom of his people.
“I have been battling with forces of darkness both physically and spiritually since I was arrested. They came with many strategies just to trick me into signing off my quest for Biafra and gain my personal freedom. Little did they know that I am more intelligent and determined; I refused all their offers because the freedom of my people, Biafrans, is paramount to me and their freedom is the freedom of Nnamdi Kanu. The pains and agony of all Biafrans are the pains and agony of Kanu.”
“Prominent leaders, countries in the world and those who don’t have the videos of the killed Biafrans in their possession should go to YouTube and watch the heinous crime committed by the Nigeria Government and her security agencies against peaceful members of IPOB during peaceful rallies and demonstrations in all the Biafra cities of Aba, Onitsha, Owerri, Igweocha (Port Harcourt), Calabar, Uyo, Asaba, Enugu, Bayelsa and other numerous cities.
“The senseless killing of Biafrans is the senseless killing of Nnamdi Kanu. The cry of the Biafran youths is the cry of Nnamdi Kanu. The joblessness of Biafrans after university is the joblessness of Nnamdi Kanu. The impoverishment and subjugation of all Biafrans is the impoverishment and subjugation of Nnamdi Kanu. The child abuses of Biafran children by the Hausa/Fulani cattle headers is that of Nnamdi Kanu,” he stated.
“The illegal detention of Biafrans in several prisons both overseas and Nigeria is that of Nnamdi Kanu. The sexual harassment of our young ladies while seeking for jobs after graduation is that of Nnamdi Kanu. The rapping and killing of our mothers and sister in our farmland by the Hausa/Fulani cattle headers is also that of Nnamdi Kanu. The untimely death of Biafrans due to bad road situations in Biafra Land is that of Nnamdi Kanu.”
Kanu continues: “The cries of our parents living in the riverine areas they call South/South due to the environmental damage caused by Shell in our land is also that of Nnamdi Kanu. The seizure of goods and sleepless nights and pains of all the Biafrans importers in the hands of the Hausa/Fulani, Yoruba customs and Police is that of Nnamdi Kanu.
“The stress that Biafrans pass through while traveling for 8 hours to Lagos and Abuja International Airports before they gain access to travel abroad which in most cases take many lives in the process while traveling is that of Nnamdi Kanu. The heartbrake of Biafran business men and women, importers and petty traders in Lagos State due to intentional fire outbreaks caused by haters of Biafrans, in their business places in Lagos and another part of Nigeria is that of Nnamdi Kanu,” he declared.
“The cry of the Biafran families that lose their children in Malaysia, Indonesia, China, and India and other parts of the world due to immigration and police intimidation is that of Nnamdi Kanu. The death of Bafrans, those trying to cross Sahara Desert and Mediterranean Sea to Europe in search of greener pastures is that of Nnamdi Kanu.
“The fake promises of all the politicians in our villages and towns in (Biafran land) who promise and deceive our parents during election but always failing them  after being voted into power  and all these problems that affect all Biafrans are the problems of Nnamdi Kanu too,” the IPOB leader noted.
“I want to say, thank you, thank you to our mother from, Akwa-Ibom, Cross Rivers, Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, Ebonyi, Enugu, Anambra, Imo, Abia states. I am grateful for all our mothers because you gave birth to these great men and women of honour, those sons and daughters that always protest for my release under the Sun and rain. My thanks to all the fathers too who allowed their children to join (IPOB meetings) across Biafra Land,” Kanu applauded.

NEWS - GSM Subscribers To Pay More For Data From Dec 1st. (1.5gib Now 3k)

Subscribers of the Global System of Mobile telecommunications across the country would pay more for data with effect from December 1, 2016, The PUNCH learnt on Monday.
Although the telecoms companies declined to speak on the matter, top management workers across the networks confirmed the story to our correspondent, saying that the directive was from the Nigerian Communications Commission.
Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a senior management employee of Etisalat Nigeria said,
“The NCC issued the directive late last week on the orders of the Federal Government. We have not announced it yet because most of the major telcos have been meeting the NCC on how to reverse this policy, because it will be too harsh for Nigerians.
“However, we further gathered that the Federal Government took the decision having discovered that data rates are very low-priced in Nigeria, compared to other countries, including nearby African countries.
“The government might have also taken the decision given that Nigerian subscribers have been kicking against the proposed nine per cent Communication Tax, whose bill is currently in the National Assembly.”
Pleading not to be mentioned, an employee of MTN said,
“What this means is that MTN, Airtel, Etisalat And Globacom will increase their data rates as from December 1, 2016. A data plan of N1,000 for 1.5 Gigabytes will now be increased to N3,000 at N1,000 per 500 Megabytes.”
In text messages sent out to its subscribers, MTN, Africa’s mobile telecommunications giant, confirmed that it had agreed to implement the directive of the NCC.
The MTN text read, “Dear customer, please be informed that from 1st of December, some MTN data tariffs will be increased to reflect the new rates set by the NCC for operators. Thank you.”
The PUNCH could not obtain an official response from the NCC at of the time of filing this report.
However, a representative of the commission said that the telecoms regulator was unaware of such plans by the operators, even as she said her bosses had claimed ignorance of the circulated message.
“We are unaware of it. I just asked my bosses; they are unaware. We will forward your query to MTN for appropriate attention,” she said over the telephone.
However, in a letter by the NCC to the operators sighted by our correspondent, the commission stated,
“This rate will subsist pending the finalisation of the study on the determination of cost-based pricing for retail broadband and data services in Nigeria.
“In order to provide a level playing field for all operators in the industry, small operators and new entrants to acquire market share and operate profitably, small operators and new entrants are hereby exempted from the price floor for data services.”
It added, “For the avoidance of doubt a small operator is one that has less than 7.5 per cent market share and a new entrant is an operator that has operated less than three years in the market.
“All operators are to ensure that subscribers are not automatically migrated to pay-as-you-go platform.
“Also, note that effective date for the interim price floor is December 1, 2016.”
Reacting to the development, the President, National Association of Telecommunications Subscribers, Mr. Adeolu Ogunbanjo, said that the NCC representative was being economical with the truth.
He said that for MTN to have sent out millions of text messages to its subscribers “clearly shows that the NCC indeed issued the directive.”
Ogunbanjo, however, said that the association would resist the tariff hike, adding,
“We will challenge it in court. We are going right away to set the machinery in motion. We are also going to do an urgent letter to the NCC Executive Vice Chairman, Prof. Umar Danbatta, which we will drop in his e-mail box.
“Unfortunately, the notice is short; yet the order will take effect from December 1. It is not just good for broadband penetration, whatever the reason may be. It is against telecoms subscribers.”
According to him, data availability means more youth engagement because they use data to develop apps and build software.
“But with what the NCC has done, these boys who develop apps will be slowed down and limited. The cost of doing business will also increase,” he added.

NEWS - Nigerians to present their tax clearance papers before getting new passports - FIRS boss, Tunde Fowler says

Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, Tunde Fowler, says in the near future, Nigerians applying for new passports at Immigration offices, will have to present their tax clearance papers before they would be issued passport. Fowler disclosed this at the at the 136th meeting of the Joint Tax Board which had the theme: “ Increased Inter-Agency Co-operation to Enhance Tax Compliance and Optimise Revenue Collection’’ in Abuja yesterday.

“We did take a position and I believe it would be implemented in the very near future that before you get any services from the immigration department: renewal of passports etc, you’d have to show that you are a tax payer. These things are normal all over the world, In an effort to serve Nigerians and Nigeria better. People believe that payment of tax is a burden and I’ll repeat that you only pay tax on income and profits. So if you reside in Nigeria and you are benefiting from being a Nigerian resident, it is only fair that you contribute to the system that makes you enjoy that standard of living.’’he said

NEWS - Unidentified gunmen kill aide to billionaire businessman, Prince Arthur Eze

Suspected gunmen stormed Umudunu village, Abagana, in Njikoka LGA of Anambra State, and allegedly killed one Chinenye Ikedimma, said to be an aide to an oil tycoon, politician and philanthropist, Prince Arthur Eze.

The incident which took place on Saturday, November 26th, at about 11.00 p.m. left some other persons at the scene with varying degrees of injuries.

Ikedimma’s corpse had been deposited at Bekee Hospital’s mortuary, Nimo, also in Njikoka. Some of the villagers said the murder could be connected with the ongoing land dispute between Abagana and Ukpo communities which had claimed many lives and property.

The Anambra state Police Commissioner, Mr Sam Okaula, who confirmed the incident said the killing is not connected to the communal crisis. "This is an isolated case. It is a case of murder somewhere in the village. One person was also injured. My Area Commander has visited him in the hospital. Maybe he had some issues with somebody or so, but the police are on it and must smoke out the culprits." he said.

VIEWPOINTS - “Don’t Blame Buhari For Hunger In Nigeria” – Father Mbaka.

Catholic Priest and Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry, Emene, Revd Fr. Ejike Mbaka has called for prayers for President Muhammadu Buhari and has absolved him of blame in the country’s economic challenges.
Fr. Mbaka, however, reassured Nigerians that the current economic condition in the country will soon be over.
In a sermon to mark the opening of the 2016/2017 Legal Year, organized by Enugu State Judiciary, Mbaka who prophesied Buhari’s victory in the 2015 presidential election recalled that, in 2012, he prophesied that doom time would follow the oil boom, if there was no good planning of the country’s resources.
“But, the past administration was one of ‘LOOT AS MUCH AS YOU CAN.’ Look at a place like the Niger Delta and one of them became president and did nothing for his people and now, you want Buhari to perform magic. But, we are a mono economy and every country depending on oil is suffering the same fate with Nigeria today.
“Buhari is not the cause of hunger in the country; not the cause of starvation in Nigeria.
“The tap root of Nigeria’s economy has been cut; Buhari is just trying to hold a rolling vehicle; a vehicle that the brakes have been destroyed.
“So, Buhari is not the cause. If (former President Goodluck) Jonathan was the president today, the situation would have been worse.[/color]
“Economic recession will not last long; the solution will come in a super natural way.
“Just like Ebola, we thought everybody would die; where is it now? Recession will go as Ebola has gone.
So, all we have to do is to pray for Buhari; he has good agenda but, many around him are planning to pull him down.”
On the recent arrest of judges by the Department of State Services (DSS), Mbaka said Nigerians are beginning to lose hope in the Judiciary,
“but with Buhari’s revolutionary experience going on, I am not saying that all who are accused are guilty but, I am saying that judges ought to remain incorruptible.
“If they are corrupt, they should be arrested and whoever arrests them should be praised.
“So, if president Buhari has that courage, that lion heart, to touch the tiger’s tail, he is a hero.”
Mbaka lauded the performance of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State and described it as “an exemplary display of visionary leadership which has enthroned peace, uniting diverse political interests.”
He called on the people of the state to continue to support his government which he said has been anointed by God.

NEWS - Nigeria Army Launches ‘Operation Python Dance’ In South-East, Issues Strong Warning To Biafra Agitators

The Nigerian Army on Monday launched ‘Operation Python Dance’ in the South East and warned secessionist groups against acts capable of threatening the nation’s sovereignty.

It said it would not hesitate to apply the Rule of Engagement to deploy troops and deal with secessionists as appropriate.
Other targets in the one month exercise are armed robbery, kidnapping, abduction, herdsmen-farmers clash, communal clashes, among others.
It said the exercise had become necessary in anticipation of rise in violent crimes during the Yuletide.
In statement made available to newsmen in Awka, the Anambra State capital, the Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Col. Sagir Musa, said the operation would last from November 27 to December 27.

The statement read in part, “It would be recalled that the Chief of Army Staff, having painstakingly appraised the myriad of security challenges and scenarios across the country, directed on the conduct of both command post and field training exercises as a way of enhancing troops’ preparedness across the spectrum of contemporary challenges.
“Similarly, Exercise Python Dance has been planned for the South East Region from 27 November to 27 December, 2016.
“The prevalent security issues such as armed robbery, kidnapping, abduction, herdsmen-farmers clashes, communal clashes and violent secessionist attacks, among others, would be targeted.
“In this wise, the exercise would be multi-agency in nature, whereby the Nigerian Army and other security agency are expected to synergise and collaborate extensively.”
The statement said that within the period under review, an elaborate civil-military cooperation line of operation had been planned.
“Nigerian Army Corps and Services would conduct activities such as medical outreach, repairs of roads, schools, and other infrastructure across the South East region.
“The Chief of Army Staff has therefore directed that a contingent of durable mechanism be imbued in the overall planning as well as execution of the exercise to achieve a hitch-free Yuletide for the entire region”, the statement added.

NEWS - Colombia plane crash: 6th survivor found under fuselage

Authorities say they've found a sixth survivor of a plane crash in Colombia. The man was found under the fuselage, according to Mauricio Parodi, a local disaster official.

Seventy-six people are confirmed dead following a plane crash outside Medellin, Colombia.
A charter plane carrying 72 passengers -- including players from Brazilian soccer team Chapecoense -- crashed near Rionegro, Colombia, according to the country's civil aviation department. Nine crew members were also on board.
The plane declared an emergency between the municipalities of La Ceja and La Union, according to a statement from Colombian aviation officials. The crash occurred in an area called Cerro El Gordo near Medellin, officials said.
The civil aviation agency had initially announced that six passengers -- three players, two crew members, and one journalist -- survived the crash. Authorities told CNN en Español's Fernando Ramos over the phone that one of those survivors died on the way to the hospital.
At least two soccer players and one crew member survived, authorities said. Chapecoense players Alan Luciano Ruschel and Jackson Ragnar Follmann survived, as did crew member Ximena Suarez. Authorities did not immediately release the names of the other two survivors.

    What happened?

The plane took off from Bolivia's Viru Viru airport at 6:18 p.m. local time, according to air controller Manuel Palamas.
Officials didn't specify what happened to the plane but did say that the wounded were being transported to medical centers.
Medical staffers wait for survivors of the crashed plane carrying the Brazilian football team Chapecoense at San Juan de Dios La Ceja Hospital near Medellin.
But images of the incident show what appear to be damaged parts of the plane.
The aviation department's statement said that passengers belonged to a Brazilian soccer team called Chapecoense.
Tattered debris emblazoned with the club's logo was also photographed at the crash site.
A logo of Brazilian football team Chapecoense is found at the site of the plane crash.
The mayor of nearby Medellin said on Twitter that he is on his way to the accident site.
"The important thing here seeing that there might be survivors, it's saving lives. That's first and foremost," Mayor Federico Gutierrez said. "We're here supporting them on this very very sad story. They have our solidarity, so do their families, their friends, their countries. "

    Weather and wind

Satellite images show that scattered showers and thunderstorms have moved across the region over the last 12 hours -- though no big storms nearby, according to CNN meteorologist Michael Guy.
There likely would have been turbulence in the region due to intermittent thunderstorms and winds from around the mountains in the region, Guy says.
A statement from nearby Jose Maria Cordova airport says the accident site can only be accessed by land because of weather conditions.
The Colombian Air Force had to abort a mission to the accident site due to inclement weather, according to Colombian officials.

    From Cinderella story to nightmare

Chapecoense was set to play the Colombian club team Atletico Nacional in the the first leg of the South American cup Finals on Wednesday.
The team, which is ninth in Brazil's Serie A league, has surprised many with its performance in the tournament this year -- ESPNFC billed their semifinal contest as a David versus Goliath match.
Chapecoense players pose for pictures during their 2016 Copa Sudamericana semifinal second leg football match on November 23.
"It's a Cinderella football story. They've only been in the top division in Brazil for the last couple of years, and they've reached the Copa Sudamericana final," Keir Radnedge of World Soccer Magazine told CNN. "What they have achieved in the last couple of years was just amazing."
The team said in a post on its Facebook page that it was waiting for an official announcement from Colombian aviation authorities before issuing its own statement about the crash.
The lesser-known club was founded in 1973 and has steadily risen up the ranks in recent years.
Team officials like to say that they've succeeded due to good management and a strategic vision, says Plus55, a Brazilian news site.
"Few remembered the name of this forgotten team," CONMEBOL said of Chapecoense. Now the whole continent knows it."
The team, whose stadium wasn't even big enough to host a final by CONMEBOL (the governing body for soccer in South America) regulations, was vying to become the first Brazilian club to win the South American Cup final since 2008.
Nacional tweeted it "deeply regrets and is in solidarity with Chapecoense for the accident that occurred is awaiting for more information from the authorities."
CONMEBOL said in a statement that it has been notified about the accident and has suspended all confederation activities.
Its president, Alejandro Dominguez, is on his way to Medellin, the statement said.

NEWS - Japan's giant sinkhole is sinking again

A giant sinkhole that was hastily repaired in Japan earlier this month is showing signs of movement.
Traffic was stopped at the busy intersection in Japanese city of Fukuoka on the weekend after the road was seen to sink some seven centimeters (2.7 inches).
Earlier this month, a 30 meter (98 feet) wide, 15 meter (50 feet) deep hole suddenly opened, swallowing five lanes of road and flooding with water.
It was repaired in a matter of days in what was seen as a testament to Japanese engineering and efficiency.

Some doubt was raised over those plaudits Saturday however, when traffic had to be stopped around the hole as a section of road began sinking again. The road has since been re-opened.
On Facebook, Fukuoka mayor Soichiro Takashima apologized for not warning residents the ground could sink again.
City officials told CNN some movement had been expected as the sand and cement used to fill the hole settle.

Filled sinkholes can occasionally reopen dramatically. Last year, a massive sinkhole in Florida which caused the death of a man after it opened under his bedroom, appeared again, sparking renewed fears among local residents.
