NEWS ALERT - Court freezes Imo state government accounts

The Court of Appeal sitting in Owerri, has ordered the freezing of all the accounts of Imo State Government and the confiscation of all monies domiciled in them. The court gave the order while delivering judgement on an appeal filed by the Governor of the state Rochas Okorocha, the Attorney General of Imo State, the Environmental Transformation Committee and the Ministry of Petroleum and Environment, Imo State.

The state government had approached the court to upturn earlier judgments delivered by Hon. Justice Maryann Anenih of Maitama High Court, Abuja, and Hon. Justice Ijeoma Agugua, in suit numbers FCT/HC/M/9257/2016 and HU/538/2011, filed by one of its contractors, E. F. Network Nigeria Limited and Mr. Gideon Egbuchulam who the state owed N1 billion.

The Abuja courts had delivered judgments in favor of one of the state contractors. The Court of Appeal in its ruling yesterday ordered that the confiscated funds of the state be used to offset the N1 billion debt owed E. F. Network Nigeria Limited and Gideon Egbuchulam.

NEWS - Buhari's government corrupt, shouldn't be trusted -Niger Delta Greenland Justice Mandate

A militant group, the Niger Delta Greenland Justice Mandate, on Monday said it would not join in the ceasefire declared by other militant groups in the Niger Delta owing to the alleged insincerity of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government.
The militant group also alleged that the current Federal Government was too corrupt to be trusted, threatening that attacks on oil facilities would continue until the government and oil firms operating in the region turn from their ‘oppressive tendencies’ against the people.
The spokesman for the militant group, Aldo Agbalaja, in a statement issued on Monday asked the multinational oil companies and the military “to watch out for the next big statement. It shall shake your imaginations.”
The statement also condemned another militant group, the Niger Delta Avengers, for being too quick to have announced a ceasefire with the government.
The statement added, “The chickens seem to be coming home to roost now. The truth is dawning on the blacklegs that are working to short-change their people will always backfire. When the Niger Delta Greenland Justice Mandate said we were out to engage the oppressors to the last, some snickered and bluffed, their indignation became most annoying when those pretenders called Avengers gave life to our prediction and announced a ceasefire. Now they are all coming back to the basics; falling back in line after seeing, first hand, that we have been right all along about the Nigerian Federal Government; it is a corrupt system that should never be trusted.

“However, we are using this medium to warn the Nigerian Armed Forces to properly advise their leadership; militarisation of our region can only lead to an avoidable armed confrontation and if this happens, we swear by the gods and ancestors of our land, we shall ensure it is a long and tedious campaign that the Nigerian state will forever regret.”
The Niger Delta Greenland Justice mandate further threatened to launch what it termed ‘Operation Hammurabi Code’, adding, “Until we see a sincere and genuine step towards a just and equitable mending of the injustices of all the years past done to our people, this war shall persist and we can guarantee that they cannot win this one, even if they get all the world’s arsenal assembled behind them.
“Operation Crocodile Tears is the mildest of what the world should expect from us, by the time we initiate the phase II and get started with ‘Operation Hammurabi Code’ only God knows what will then become of these plains called Nigeria.”

MUSIC - Lil Wayne – No Mercy

Lil Wayne is responsible for the opening theme music to “Skip and Shannon: Undisputed,” a new sports talk show hosted by Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe on Fox Sports 1. Wayne also stars in the opening sequence, which lasts around 40 seconds. It was thought that the clip spanned the entirety of the theme song, which is titled “No Mercy,” but it turns out that a full version, spanning about 2:30 in runtime, has now been released as Wayne’s latest single. By whom? The record label he’s been with since age 11, of course.Despite Wayne trying more desperately than ever to free himself from his confining contract, it seems that all of his songs still have to pass through the clenched palms of Birdman. “No mercy,” Wayne repeats three times on the hook, “And I won’t back down.” The song feels ironic considering Wayne’s predicament, though it looks like he’ll continue to fight Birdman until he gets his freedom, even if that means dropping music through his former father figure’s label to do so

NEWS - SERAP gives FG 7 day ultimatum to prosecute Patience Jonathan over $15m found in her account

Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has given the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, a 7 Day ultimatum to prosecute former First lady, Patience Jonathan over $15m found in the accounts of four companies owned by her which is currently under investigation for fraud.

DailyTrust reports that the anti-corruption agency in a letter dated September 13th and signed by its executive director Adetokunbo Mumuni, asked the Minister of Justice to prosecute the former first lady within 7 days of the receipt of its letter, failing which SERAP will institute legal proceedings to compel the discharge of constitutional duty in this matter.” The letter in part reads
“Under article 20 of the convention, this government has an obligation to prosecute intentional illicit enrichment, that is, a significant increase in the assets of a public official that he or she cannot reasonably explain in relation to his or her lawful income. The fact that the $15m found in the four accounts belong to Mrs Jonathan raises serious suspicion or at the very least a prima-facie case of unexplained wealth/illicit enrichment, and imposes an obligation on Mrs Jonathan to explain and justify the source(s) of the $15m. In the event that she is not able to justify, explain or put forth evidence demonstrating the legitimate origin of the $15m, SERAP urges you to take immediate steps to forfeit the asset under appropriate legal proceedings, and to institute criminal prosecution for unexplained wealth in the matter. Similarly, section 44 of the Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Act criminalises unexplained or illicit wealth and allows criminal penalties and forfeiture if in the course of an investigation there are reasonable grounds to believe that a corruption offence has been committed, that is, the failure to explain the origin of the $15m given present or past emoluments, and other relevant circumstances. Mrs Jonathan has admitted that the four accounts belong to her and that she is the sole signatory to these accounts. The four accounts in which Mrs Jonathan’s $15m was lodged are said to belong to the following companies: Pluto Property and Investment Company Limited, Seagate Property Development and Investment Company Limited, Trans Ocean Property and Investment Company Limited and Globus Integrated Service Limited. Mrs Jonathan was given a platinum card and exclusive access to the accounts. According to reports, a houseboy, a driver and other domestic workers of a former Special Adviser on Domestic Affairs to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Waripamowei Dudafa, were named as directors.”
